About 20,000 years ago, the last in a series of glaciers, moved across North America. As the glacier entered South Dakota from the Northeast, it scoured and scraped the land, leveling high places, filling in low areas, smoothing some surfaces and gouging others. The result is what is now known as South Dakota's Glacial Lakes or "Prairie Pothole Region." Webster is the center of the Glacial Lakes area, with more natural lakes than any other county in South Dakota.

Webster is a sportsman's mecca, with waterfowl, upland game and fishing around every corner. The prairie pothole region of South Dakota not only provides vital breeding habitat for many species of ducks, but also offers excellent hunting opportunities. Each year, this area introduces more than 2 million new mallards to North America's central flyway. The prairie pothole region is a key breeding habitat, where more than 50 percent of the continent's waterfowl are raised. Although duck and goose hunting is incredible, South Dakota's state bird is the Ring-necked pheassant. Webster is known for its outstanding pheasant hunting, but hunters may find additional upland game, such as partridge, sharp tail grouse, quail and dove.

The guides and I have over 30 years of guiding experience. We have found it very exciting to share our passion with others. Our goal is to create the perfect hunting and fishing getaway. Although I grew up waterfowl hunting on Maryland's eastern shore, I've also experienced hunting black bear in Canada as well as elk and mule deer in Montana. My passion always brings me back to the great pothole region. I feel as if Windy Hill Outfitters provides the perfect ingredient for a fulfilling hunting and fishing vacation. Whether it's 500 ducks decoying in corn fields, 50 pheasants flushing at the end of a sorghum strip or a limit of walleye, there's no doubt your hunting and fishing experience with us will be unforgettable.
